If it's just for your store, a private app is simpler and cheaper. If you want to sell it to other merchants, it's a public app with billing and review requirements. I build both and will tell you which fits.

Where does it get hosted?

Custom apps run on a small cloud host, typically DigitalOcean. Set up in your account or mine, costs kept low, documented so it's never a mystery.

Can you fix or extend an app I already have?

If it's yours or you have the source, yes. I'll pick up an existing codebase, fix what's broken and add what's missing.

How much does an app cost?

It depends on scope. A focused private app is a very different number from a public App Store product. You get a fixed quote after we scope it.
